This is a CPCAB Validated Course and is for people over 18 who want to learn counselling skills to help others either in a voluntary or paid role, eg teachers, carers, mentors, nurses, and those who want to find out more about this field or begin to train as a counsellor.

The course focuses on developing the practical use of skills, and personal development.

It does not qualify you to practice as a professional counsellor.

The CSK-L2 qualification is one step in a series of CPCAB qualifications. Once you have completed this qualification you may wish to begin training to become a counsellor, in which case the next step on from CSK-L2 is CPCAB’s Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Studies (CST-L3).

What will I study?

Course Objectives: You will work towards developing skills, knowledge and understanding of 7 units: Using counselling skills ethically and safely, Establishing and sustaining the boundaries of the helping role, Working empathically as a helper, Focussing on the helpee’s needs and concerns, Using self awareness in helping work, Using a range of counselling skills to facilitate the helping interaction, Using feedback and reflection to enhance counselling skills

CST-L3- Certificate in Counselling Studies - (30wks) 

For candidates who have completed CSK-L2 or equivalent.

Course Starts: Wednesday 3rd November 2021. Ends Wednesday 13th July 2022

Evenings 6.pm - 9.00pm - 30 weeks

Introduction

This is a CPCAB Validated Course and is for people over 19 who want to take the next step in training to become a counsellor, having already acquired counselling skills, learning more about counselling theory and agency work. CST-L3 is an experiential course which is focussed on integrating theory and practice, and starting to see counselling skills in context.

The learning on the course is about developing your ability to form and maintain a therapeutic or counselling relationship, and understanding how theoretical perspectives underpin this. You will also be learning about the differences between a therapeutic relationship and the therapeutic process /outcome.

It does not qualify you to practice as a professional counsellor.

The CST-L3 qualification is one step in a series of CPCAB qualifications. Once you have completed this qualification you wish to begin training to become a counsellor, in which case the next step on from CST-L3 is CPCAB’s Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling (TC-L4). Progression is not automatic

Placement

As part of this course there will be a placement requirement of 20 hours. This is a placement outside of the course where you can practice some of the skills used by counsellors, but is not formally contracted counselling.

Age 19 or over. You will be invited to attend a formal interview and will require a supporting reference from your level 4 tutor.(date & time to be confirmed)

33 weeks (term time) Including 1 x weekend plus 4 x Saturdays

This is a CPCAB Validated Course and is for people over 19 who have already completed both the CPCAB Level 2 Certificate in Counselling skills, and CPCAB Level 3 Certificate in Counselling studies or their RPL (prior learning) equivalent plus their Yr1 Diploma level 4.

Personal counselling or therapy requirement

A minimum of 25 hours of personal therapy usually divided into 10 hours in year 1 and 15 hours in year 2.

Client work requirements

A minimum of 120 formally-contracted and appropriately supervised counselling hours (one-to-one) including a generic mix of client groups

Supervision requirements

Minimum of 1.5 hours per month, with a suitably qualified/experienced supervisor working clearly within the person centred model.

What will I study?

Introduction

This is a CPCAB Validated Course and is for people over 19 who have already completed both the CPCAB Level 2 Certificate in Counselling skills, and CPCAB Level 3 Certificate in Counselling studies or their RPL (prior learning) equivalent, and wish to train to become a counsellor working in a counselling service agency. Successful completion of this course means that the trainees will be able to provide a therapeutic counselling service within the context of an agency's service framework.

Externally assessed case review (3,000 –3,500 words)

Personal counselling or therapy

Candidates need to have completed a minimum of 40 hours of personal counselling by the end of the course. This can include hours undertaken prior to the start of the course but at least 10 hours of personal therapy must be undertaken during the training year itself.

 Client work requirements

A minimum of 60 hours formally-contracted counselling (one-to-one) including client assessment.

Supervision requirements

Supervision – one-to-one supervision – to meet BACP minimum requirements.

What will I study?

Course Objectives: You will work towards developing skills, knowledge and understanding of 7 units:

1. Work safely, legally and ethically as an independent counsellor     2. Work with complex aspects of the counselling relationship     3. Use theory and research to work with client diversity in independent practice     4. Use a coherent approach to respond to the needs of individual clients    5. Monitor and maintain professional effectiveness as a counsellor in independent practice
